Thousands of websites, including Wikipedia, Mozilla, Google, Craigslist and WordPress went dark today to protest SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and the PROTECT IP Act (Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act or PIPA), two online anti-piracy bills currently under consideration on Capitol Hill.
Lawmakers who support the bills say these acts will protect the intellectual property rights of TV, music and video studios. But the websites taking part in the Wednesday blackout are certain that SOPA and PIPA will be used to effectively censor the Internet.

The protest seems to be working as three co-sponsors of the SOPA and PIPA (Sen. Marco Rubio, Reps. Lee Terry and Ben Quayle) have publicly withdrawn their support.
As you can see, Find Your Geek is also participating in the protest. If you have some time, please click here to support freedom of information and speech and to speak out against these dangerous and ultimately ineffective anti-piracy measures.
